Myran - Scandinavian Design and Fritz Hansen presents an exhibition tribute to Arne Jacobsen, one of the most important architects of the 20th century.

The exhibition will take place at the Melanthiros Space for Art and Design in Kallimarmaro. See map.

Arne Jacobsen, apart from his architectural work, has demonstrated an enormous talent as a designer of furniture and utilitarian objects. This exhibition is an opportunity to show his work, the commitment to the form, and the intelligence with which he incorporated technological developments in his work. Whether designing large-scale architectural projects, or utilitarian objects like clocks, lamps and bathroom items, his insurmountable goal was always the combination of beauty and functionality in the design. So many of the items he designed for various brands such as Fritz Hansen, Stelton, Georg Jensen, are now, 35 years after his death, the most recognizable objects of the modern Scandinavian design.

The exhibition will present Arne Jacobsen's entire work through a selection of furniture and objects designed by him, as well as photographs and audio from his architectural work, which includes the Danish Embassy in London, Merton College in Oxford, the National Bank in Copenhagen, and the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The focus of the exhibition though, will be on his work for Danish producer Fritz Hansen which has produced the Arne Jacobsen furniture from 1934 until today, including the legendary "Ant" chair (1952), the "Egg" and the "Swan". 

Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971), architect and designer. Educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Architecture in Copenhagen. He was a professor at the Academy from 1956 to 1965.

This Christmas, Greece and Sweden join forces!

For two weeks (18 until 31 December), Greece is for Lovers take their products and creations to Myran, in Kolonaki. A peek into the World of Greece is for Lovers, as well as a temporary shop, in a festive atmosphere, among Myran’s collection of Scandinavian Design.

Opening on Saturday, the 18th December, 18:00 onwards, with freebies, warm glögg and Greek-Swedish hybrid snacks!

Myran kick starts the festive season as usual with our Lazy Saturday - by now a tradition stronger than the Christmas tree - in our store on Fokylidou 3 on Saturday 4th of December, 10am-6pm.

We offer hot Swedish mulled wine (Glögg), cold beer (øl) and bright red Danish sausages (Pølse) and chilled shopping. We will of course entertain you with our absolutely cheesiest compilation of christmas music - and - as a christmas gift to all of you we offer you 10-15% discount on all products!

Myran - Scanindavian design is starting a new collaboration with another of the classic Danes - the lighting manufacturer Le Klint. Le Klint has been producing their fantastic hand folded paper and plastic shades since the 1940's. True modern classics.

Myran is today launching the first step of its new home on the internet. The main new feature is the product database with the Complete Collection. This is an always up to date virtual showroom, mainly aimed for professionals, where you can find all products from all our suppliers. This is a great tool when you are looking for furniture for projects.

Later this autumn, we will launch our online store, offering the possibility to order the best of Scandinavian design comfortably from your couch.

The name Myran, means ant in Swedish, and the name is an homage to the three legged ANT CHAIR (or 3100) designed in 1952 by Arne Jacobsen. A chair that changed everything. A chair where seat and back were made of one piece of plywood. A chair that could be stacked one on top of each other. A chair that was small, light and delicate as to fit in the smaller spaces of modern housing, but still comfortable and ergonomic. A chair for the era of mass production combined with the highest level of artistry. In short a design masterpiece

Myran – Scandinavian Design focuses mainly on contemporary Scandinavian design, being more interested in what’s now, than what was - but the Fritz Hansen collection is not only a collection of good old design classics - it’s the beginning and the inspiration of everything that is now.

The collaboration between Arne Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen left traditional craftsmanship behind and explored the possibilities of modern production techniques, creating furniture design that had never been seen before. The Ant, The Egg, the Series 7 chairs, The Swan and the Super-Elliptical table by Bruno Mathsson and Piet Hein is a big reason to why furniture look like they do today.

But except from the icons of Scandinavian design by Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjaerholm, Fritz Hansen also collaborates with some of the best contemporary designers, continuously expanding the collection with great designs, such as the Alphabet sofa by Piero Lissoni, the NAP chair by Kaspar Salto or the beautiful ESSAY table by Cecilie Manz.

Danish company Fritz Hansen was founded in 1872 and is today arguably the most important manufacturer of Scandinavian Design.
